Military Antennas Full Force Backup

By Nancy Gardner

There had been wide reports of terrorism going on, especially in the Middle East. One of the known infamous terrorist groups is the ISIS, which stands Islamic State of Syria and Iraq. This dangerous militant group seized both Syria and Iraq, taking over major oil fields. Millions of residents have been held captive and feared for their lives. It has also been reported that members of IS are raping and executing women and children, If ISIS continues to terrorize, the world could suffer economically, socially, and politically.

The actions of IS have ignited controversy and fear. Over 60 countries have expressed their firm support in the war against terrorism, which is led by the United States coalition. Airstrikes and armed commandos had been launched to destroy ISIS strongholds. The US army has used modern and advanced weapons and tools to probe the activities of IS. Military antennas are some of the extremely useful tools utilized in the war against IS.

Although these tools sound plain and simple, they are exceptionally beneficial in terms of communication. Its applications include unmanned aerial vehicles, electronic IED countermeasures, missiles, and vehicle telemetry, satellite communication, asset tracking, airborne and portable ground. Antennas are used in a wide variety of defense, precision and intelligence applications. Below are different kinds of antennas with their respective functions.

Satellite Communication Antenna. SATCOM has been used by the national defense force for decades because of its ability to cover farther and wider distance, with frequency that ranges about 0.3 GHz to more than 30 GHz. Although man made satellites are located in the space, signals are being passed and rebounded back to the earth . There are 4 types of antennas used in satellite communication: parabolic, horn type, helical style, phased array type.

Unmanned Vehicle (UVA). Also known as the drone, these are unpiloted aerial vehicles are loaded with missiles. Jet electric engines are used to power UVA. They are basically used as spies by monitoring the activities in a specific area. On board computers or remote control commands its flight, just like when you are playing a video game.

Not all countries can afford the combat drones. UVAs cost a lot of money. Only the United States, United Kingdom, Pakistan, and China have purchased combat drones.

Conformal Antenna. This flat radio is tailored to adapt to prescribed shapes. Since it is a type of flat antenna, it is capable of blending into a structure where it is attached. It is used to in aircraft and missiles.

Vehicle Telemetry Antenna. It is consist of GPS receiver and an electronic device. It is used to investigate a location, its activities and status. The readers are converted into digital information where it can be seen in a computerized mapping software. Developers of missiles and aircraft used this type of antenna for testing.

These extremely useful tools can play a role in the war against terrorism. The above mentioned are some of the widely used antennas for military purposes. You can check out the website if you want to know about these antenna.
